SketchCop Drawing A Line Against Crime edition by Michael W Streed Professional Technical eBooks
This is a compelling group of stories of how one cop doing his job hunting down criminals one sketch at a time. He gives such compassion not only to his drawings but to the victims treating each one as if they were the first. Giving them what the need to feel comfortable to give him the story as he draws what they see in their mind. At times not everyone is truthful as you will read it is part of his job to find every little detail even those that are not telling the truth so they can find the right person who did the crime. No one is prefect as you will see inside these pages from the victim to the cops who put the bad guys away. We all make mistakes it is really painful when at times you make a big one and put the wrong one behind bars. Having a drawing help put the write one away along with today’s DNA which they did not have years ago.Mr. Gauffi did a wonderful job of narration it was read in one voice which would have been the voice of the author. That is expect since there really isn’t any characters this is a story of facts of things that have happen and how sketch helps solve the crime. There are no background noises or any signs where the narrator took a break with the volume going from low to high which is a sure sign a break was taken. He gives very clear narration with a smooth voice that keeps you awake and interested in what you are learning. He lays the facts out giving compassion to the victims and all they had to go through. I look forward to listening to more from this narrator.
The author gives you a base that starts with him as a young boy wanting to be a cop just like his dad. He goes through his years with a switch to his job and his desire to draw combining it together. He goes through the start of pencil drawing taking you through to computer drawing and how that changed over the years. His input to the changes helping others make those changes in their department to how it effect the court room and having to prove what he does works. He writes about very interesting stories that has happen with him or others as well as the part he or other cops play in finding the guilty. As you well know not all criminals go to jail, not all are found, the innocent sometimes have to pay for a crime they didn’t commit. Thankfully with DNA this does not happen as much as it use to. The human mind is a mystery as you will see clearly through the eyes of the author. We see things different, being scared makes us see things different. I found this to be a very interesting listen with wonderful facts. We see the pictures but I doubt many everything about the person behind those drawings . Anyone who enjoys true crime and all that goes with it will enjoy this audio.

SketchCop Drawing A Line Against Crime edition by Michael W Streed Professional Technical eBooks Reviews
Great book!! Interesting, informative, (funny in some places) AND it makes you think!! If you were attacked or witnessed a crime, could you describe the assailant(s)? Normally, I rarely forget a face, but this book actually got me to wondering if I would be able to describe an assailant if I was a victim or witness of a crime. It takes an incredible amount of patience and talent to do this type of work. Thank you to the author, Michael Streed for giving us a look into this important area of law enforcement that most civilians rarely think of!!
Michael W. Steed delivers a compassionate book describing criminal cases where his sketches often influenced trial outcomes and apprehension of suspects. Steed grew up in a police culture, which affected his torn desire to be either a police officer or an artist. He fell into the opportunity to combine the two and has become a nationally noted police sketch artist. He coined the phrase SketchCop and has successfully developed his own nationally used computer software to aid in sketching suspects. That being said the book’s strength for this reviewer lies in three areas 1. the tracing of the field’s historical development from just calling in a local artist to developing respected divisions staffed with trained police artists, 2. the description of the two major methods to develop suspect sketches, and 3. how he has personally worked with witnesses, notably children, to successfully develop sketches leading to the apprehension of violent criminals. Perhaps the uniqueness of this book lies in the author’s admission of the failures encountered. As this reviewer moved from chapter to chapter, he found the author’s deep seated compulsion to assist police and victims at any time of the day to be perhaps due to his seeking penitence for a failed case very early in his sketch-artist career. In that case, found in chapter three, the wrong man was convicted and served twenty years for a crime he had not committed. This conviction arose partly because of the author’s sketch. As the chapters continue, I could not help but see the evolution of a police officer who really wanted to help victims and police get the right guy. The author earns this reviewer's respect as throughout the remainder of the book he strongly emphasizes the importance of interviewing witnesses without leading questions and the need to trust the ability of children to present an accurate description. He further states without hesitation that no one should be sentenced to die based solely on a police sketch. The book’s strongest appeal to this reviewer lies in the author’s description of how he develops his sketches, thus, SketchCop should appeal to writers of police drama, whether true or fiction. It should also appeal to defense attorneys, police officers, other sketch artists, and the general public because the author does tell some darn good stories. I cannot rate the book five stars, however, for the book has a number of grammatical errors including wrong word usage, improper pronoun-antecedent agreement, skipped words, inconsistent use of dashes, mixing up second and third person pronouns, and a few other things, but this is the English teacher in me, and under no circumstances will they stop a reader from thoroughly enjoying the book.
Sketchcop
Excellent book!
This book is very well written. I have read a lot of true crime books, where most emphasize on the facts, profiling and why they commit the crime.. This one takes a different approach.
I always felt empathy for the victims in other books, are appalled at what was done and have been even scared at times...
I learned a lot about how people were found, whether they were a victim or had committed a crime.
It was very interesting to learn a different approach to law enforcement. Not only how it is done but the history behind sketching.
I was amazed at the sketch aspic of law enforcement. I really didn't realize how personal it could be, or how detailed the methods are to achieve a sketch!
Not only did the book cover the facts, it made you feel the emotion of the stories, some of the stories even had humor, the author gave any honest picture of law enforcement as he lived it.
I've got a whole new respect for individuals who choose a career in law!
Awesome!
